It was a time in the distant kingdom of Dor, a vibrant place of magic, laughter and ... liters of soup!
But a terrible tragedy has struck this place. The king's heart is broken, the princess feels that nostalgia and the city's inhabitants have no soup. Is that the sun has disappeared! The world became gray. All hope is lost in this land ... until Despereaux Tilling is born.
This modern fairy tale, the creation of Gary Ross in concert with the directors Saturday Fell and Rob Stevenhagen, tells the story of several unlikely heroes: Despereaux (Matthew Broderick), a brave little mouse trapped in the dungeon for speaking to a human ; Roscuro (Dustin Hoffman), a good heart rat who loves light and soup, but is exiled; Pea (Emma Watson), a princess who lives in a dark castle and is a prisoner of the pain of his father and Mig (Tracey Ullman), a maid who aspires to be a princess, but is forced to serve the jailer (Robbie Coltrane) in the castle.
Tiny born with oversized ears, Despereaux was born too big for his small world. Refusing to live a life governed by fear, he befriends a princess who meets the sweet name of Pea and learns to read books rather than to eat, which enables him to discover a world of fairy tales fairytale filled with stories of knights, dragons and justice.
Banished from his world for daring to be more human than mouse, Despereaux is collected by another outcast, Roscuro, who also wants to listen to stories. But when the princess rejects it, it becomes a monster and binds with Mig for fomenting the worst kind of revenge.
After the removal of Pea, Despereaux discovers he is the only one who can save the princess, and that even the smallest mouse can have the courage of a knight in armor.
