Twilight - presented in Quebec under the title Twilight: Fascination - is presented tonight, Thursday November 20 to 22 hours in cinemas across the province. The film, featuring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Cam Gigandet, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Taylor Lautner, Rachel Lefevre and Nikki Reed, was directed by Catherine Hardwicke and the adaptation of novels by Stephenie Meyer. Here is our review of the film.

Twilight was a risky gamble, which is reminiscent of the first Harry Potter. Indeed, it is always difficult to take a novel that is a pop culture phenomenon and has millions of followers, and to make a film adaptation.

The challenge is even more dangerous when one decides to take virtually unknown actors to interpret characters adored by young girls. This is not without fears (yes, I put an "s") that I saw the film and the verdict is far from negative.

Actors

If I start the game by the players because they must be welcomed. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, on the shoulders of the film which is based, are extremely promising and enter fully into the skin of their characters.

One can say they are still both finesse and some scenes from the novel traces of tension are not played with the intensity required. Would anyway, admit it, a purpose, this problem could be corrected in the next few episodes of what is now called a saga.

Cam Gigandet, Billy Burke, Peter Facinelli, Taylor Lautner and Nikki Reed agréablement support the two key players. Faded, but not without shortcomings. A word to emphasize the provision of Rachel Lefevre, Montreal original actress who has just enough to let sadism augur a plot a little more rare in the next film.

The script and staging

The history is well marked and the participation of Stephenie Meyer did not facilitate the task of Melissa Rosenberg, the screenwriter.

Nevertheless, and despite some alterations to the novel (the order of events has been changed, and some places - including schools -), all is well put together and takes the road.

The staging of Catherine Hardwicke (Lords of Dogtown) is perfect, although on two occasions, the split between some of the scenes is a bit abrupt.

Noteworthy, two small moments of happiness in the film. First, the scene where Bella sees Edward in biology class. A stuffed owl, wings, behind the young man and this makes it the wings of an angel ... Then, when, in the forest, Edward Bella shows why he can not expose themselves to sunlight. Superb! And I also liked that such moments often recur.

The verdict

Why keep my reservations and why is it that I do not m'extasie? Because of several things that bother me and which have 24 hours to emerge.

- First, the makeup of vampires. White, I'd like ... but still. It's sometimes a little too much, especially when compared to Interview With A Vampire in which Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst were very cleverly disguised. In Twilight, the white corpse is too artificial, especially during the scenes shot in broad daylight.

- This is the first film in a series and it shows! Twilight is slow (too!) To start, you must locate the characters and their history. At the same time, given what we found in the novel is a must.

- The players are young and it feels. It is hoped that they will have matured in the next film.

Finally, if you liked the novel, you will not be disappointed and I am ready to bet a lot of things that the film will be a hit at the box office, the teens who have seen High School Musical 3 unrelated special to be put in the day.

If, against, you do not read the work of Stephenie Meyer, you're not a (e) teen and you want a feature size of Interview With A Vampire, wait for the DVD release . ;-)

Our rating: ★★★★★★½☆☆☆

High School Musical 3! It's not a film for teens, it's a film for girls 8 to 12 years! But I also think that the film will have great success with teenagers (<12 years!)

What do you think?
